Christmas in July

5 months from today is CHRISTMAS!! Just a reminder :) In celebration of Christmas in July and Santa, I ate a cookie this morning. It seemed completely appropriate.

It was pretty tasty. One of the admin assistants made them – oatmeal choc chip, pretty light and chewy, very thin. Mmm went well with my morning coffee around 10:30 this morning.

Breakfast was much earlier this morning around 7:30 and was 2 egg whites with nutritional yeast, and a jar of juice! Juice made from yesterday’s batch.

The juice was very refreshing, esp after I did a quick set of abs this morning. I then packed up and WALKED to work! Hooray. It was only 83-85 degrees out on my walk so it wasn’t too, too terrible. I was prepared and wore running shorts and t-shirt and just sweated it out and changed upon arrival. I just like starting off the day/week, Christmas with a good walk, sunshine, and morning observation time. Clears the brain!

This week is a big week – my BIG presentation is tomorrow. I’ve got the ppt done, now just need to practice practice practice! The rest of the week is peppered with crunching out some more projects at work, meetings, an intern potluck night, exercise, and then heading north on Thursday, hooray!

Happy Monday, and Merry July Christmas!

Farmers Market and Brunch

Started this lovely Sunday with some juice!

It was quite tasty. I then headed to the Dupont Farmers market which I’ve been meaning to get to alll summer. Since it’s one of my last Sundays in DC I decided to do it up. So many lovely things! I only bought 2 ears of corn and 2 peaches, as most of my meals this week are already accounted for. I then headed over to a freinds’ for brunch. It was a bounty of summer fruit! We had watermelon, a hybrid melon of sorts, cherries I brought, kiwi, mango, wow fruit! We also had cranberry scones the host made, and raspberry blueberry bran muffins I brought from TJS. There were also tacos with a filling of beets, potatoes, peppers, and onions, a neat combo! Lots of iced coffee too. Now I’m trying to fit in laying by the pool, gym, and doing some computer work. We’ll see how it all shakes out.

Well hello, Mr. George Washington

What a fun day so far! We headed out super early down to the waterfront to get on the boat to go see Mount Vernon. I kicked off the morning with the juice I made yesterday – mm veggies. As the boat pulled off we had some breakfast – yogurt and coffee. I munched on a peach a few hours later. Mount vernon was beautiful! Hot and sunny, but a great day touring the estate – the gardens, the mansion, barn area, and all. Very neat! George Washington was quite a guy, let me tell you. We ate at the restaurants there, and I had a pretty tasty black bean burger. I had it open faced so abandoned the top half of the bun, take that. Trail mix on the side shared with dad, and a diet coke, couldn’t help it! Cool and refreshing.More pictures to come later. Now off to the pool to cool off!

Artsy baseball ventures

What a fun day with dad! We saw a lot around town and had a great time! Before my morning run I had a fueling snack: Pb and apple slice. After that delicious brunch  dad and I hit the town, first swinging by the white house.

We then made our way over to the Hirschhorn museum to check out the art.

Neat wishing tree, dad and I both wrote wishes and hung them on Yoko Ono’s tree.

Really cool light exhibit.

After soaking up all the art, and it was a lot of art for me, we headed home. On the way home Dad and I stopped at Trader Joe’s for some snacks and juicing materials. Inspired by the juice at brunch, we tried to replicate the cucumber, cranberry, bubble concoction. We put a big cucumber in the juicer and mixed it with cranberry juice and tonic – it was pretty good! I also showed dad the wonders of the juicer and made my regular one – carrot, celery, apple, lemon, and cucumber.  We paired our juices with garlic hummus, double roasted salsa, flax/soy chips, and pita chips. Yum! Refreshing and refueling after all that walking and art-ing.

After sitting by the pool for a bit we headed to the baseball game! Nationals vs. Rockies! It was really fun and we had great seats. As for food, I foraged for vegetarian options and it was a bit tough. I ended up with some delicious corn on the cob (covered in mayo, some sort of cheese, and cayenne pepper – a bit spicy, but great!) . And a pretzel with mustard. And a beer. Pretty good baseball food, coulda been healthier, but coulda been worse too.
It was a great game, sad loss at the end though! Fun day, pretty beat, and we have more fun to come tomorrow! Actually starting very bright and early. Wahoo! Yayy for visitors in DC! :)

Let the fun begin!

Happy Vacation! I’m so excited I have the next 5 days off from my internship and get to take a trip home to visit! Haven’t been home since I started here at the end of May, and I’m looking forward to hanging out with my parents, brother, boyfriend, and friends! I was sooo tired last night after that 6 mi run that I konked out and slept til 10am. It was glorious.  I woke up to some eggs, peppers, turmeric, and coffee with cinnamon.Checked a few things off my to-do list:

clean bathroom
clean kitchen
take out trash and recyclables
put laundry away
finish packing
I then hopped over to the gym for a quick workout:
–15 mins on the Stairmaster
–15 mins on the elliptical
–arm workout (glad I got my 3 sessions in, like I had planned on Sunday!)

I scooted home and made some JUICE! Haven’t used the juicer since I moved to DC and it was about time! It’s a beautiful day here too so seemed appropriate to have some super fresh juice after a good workout and go sit in the sun.

Juice was made of:It’s also good timing cuz I wanted to clear out the fridge of any fresh items that might go bad while I’m away til Tuesday night. (cucumber, celery stalks, carrots, apple, lemon)

It turned out delicious!

I was all excited to go lay by my building’s pool (I’ve only used it twice, ah!) and headed down with juice and book in hand, but found the pool didn’t open til 3 today! Boooo. I was determined to get some sunshine and juice time, so I went and sat just outside my building on a patch of grass. It was a bit awkward since I was also determined to wear a bikini. Whatevs, ppl can deal, right? ;) I was literally laying next to cars.outdoor juice :) Not quite the serene atmosphere I was imagining by the pool .. oh well. I came back after 45 mins (don’t want too much sun, it is awful for you, I know). I had a cottage cheese snack
And now it’s time to shower, finish packing, and get on the metro to the airport! Catch you later.
